Akufukuzaye Hakuambii Toka (The One Who Wants You Gone Will Never Tell You to Leave)

Let's talk about this. You can be hosted and still feel homeless. You sit at the table, but your presence is no longer celebrated. You speak, but your voice no longer lands. You laugh, but the room doesn’t laugh with you anymore. No one says, “Toka”(Leave)But everything else starts saying it..The tone changes. The warmth fades.

You’re no longer invited into the small conversations, the inside jokes, the planning. You become background noise in a space that once felt like family. That’s when the Swahili wisdom makes sense:Akufukuzaye hakuambii toka. The one who wants you gone will rarely tell you directly. They will show you through their behavior. And here’s the painful part ,you start doubting yourself. You ask, “Am I too much?”“Did I do something wrong?”“Why do I suddenly feel like a burden?”

But sometimes, it’s not about what you did. It’s about what you represent.Your growth.Your light.Your difference. Not everyone is comfortable hosting someone who is becoming more than what they expected. So they don’t confront you. They withdraw from you. They don’t fight you. They freeze you out. They don’t reject you loudly. They reject you quietly. And you feel it in your spirit before you understand it with your mind.

That’s why discernment is powerful.Discernment teaches you to read rooms without begging for explanations. Not every door that closes needs a knock. Not every silence needs a reply.Sometimes the most graceful response is distance. Not bitterness. Not drama.Just clarity.

You don’t leave because you were defeated. You leave because you were awakened. You choose peace over confusion. You choose dignity over discomfort. You choose yourself over staying where you’re only tolerated. And here’s the truth they don’t tell you:Leaving is not failure.Leaving is wisdom.

You don’t force yourself into spaces where your spirit is shrinking. You don’t beg for seats at tables that no longer see your value. You rise and you go.Not with noise. Not with revenge. But with strength.Because sometimes God doesn’t remove people from your life.He removes the comfort so you can move. And the Bible reminds us:“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32:8 (NIV)

So if you’re hosted but you no longer feel at home…If you’re present but no longer embraced…If you’re staying but your soul is tired…Listen to the proverb.Akufukuzaye hakuambii toka.(The one who wants you gone will never tell you to leave.)And when you finally walk away, walk with your head high. You weren’t chased out.You were called forward. 🙏🏽✨
